TRM-FWS
Data Sheet

TRM-WaterWire™-FWS is a wire type sensor for water or water/glycol coolant used within electronic enclosures or in water cooled electrical equipment. TRM-WaterWire™-FWS is sold primarily to OEM clients and its monitoring circuit is often incorporated into a motherboard or controller design.

TRM-WaterWire™-FWS is very small in diameter (< 2 mm) and quite flexible. It can be bent to follow coolant supply and return tubing and can be wrapped around various fittings to assure that the sensor is within millimeters of potential leak sources. Having the sensor wire physically close to any the water tubing and fittings is the best way to assure quick detection before delicate circuitry is damaged.

TRM-WaterWire™-FWS does not calculate the leak location capabilities along the wire, since the wire is usually installed in relatively short lengths where detecting a leak and reporting its location at the rack or server level is sufficient to initial immediate maintenance action.

TRM-WaterWire™-FWS is not intended for installation on floor surfaces or similar areas subject to foot traffic or moving equipment. TRM-WaterWire™-FWS should be semi-permanently installed within the equipment or rack to be monitored.

Key Features

Dimensions:

  • Twisted pair, cloth insulated, 30 AWG steel wire. Diameter of twisted pair is approximately 2 mm.

Length:

  • Custom specified depending on equipment to be monitored. Typical installed on length from 1 to 5 meters, but length can be longer if needed.

Response time:

  • Typically less than 10 seconds to drops of 50:50 glycol/water mix. Actual response depends on drip rate and details of monitoring circuit.

Integrity monitoring:

  • Achieved with fixed end-of-line resistor and appropriate logic in detection circuit

Although TRM Sensors does not offer a stand-alone controller for TRM-WaterWire™-FWS, we are willing to provide design consultation for those equipment fabricators wishing to incorporate a monitoring circuit within their motherboard or controller design.
