TRM-ALOS is an optical probe sensor that responds to virtually liquid. It is designed for use on flat horizontal surfaces such as a floor or drip pan. It is the solid state equivalent of a very sensitive float switch that activates with approximately 1 mm of fluid height. But it does not discriminate between types of liquid. It will trigger a leak detection signal on water, glycol coolant, diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, hydraulic oil, mineral oil, heat transfer fluids, industrial acids and bases, and many other industrial or commercial fluids.
The sensor body is a hard rubber hockey puck that has a low center of gravity and sits flat or a floor surface. Three rubber feet have been sized to hold the tip of the optical probe at precisely the right height to maximize leak detection performance.
Because the TRM-ALOS uses an optical probe for detection, there are no moving parts, no exposed circuitry or electrode surfaces and no chance of galvanic corrosion. The exposed surfaces are polysulfone (probe) or hard rubber (sensor body) both of which permit long term operation at up to 80C. Both materials offer excellent chemical resistance with the exception of acetone, methyl alcohol and phenol.
Because the probe does not have any chemical interaction with the leak fluid, the sensor can be reset almost instantly by lifting the probe out of the liquid and wiping away any excess. When free of any standing liquid, probe resets and can be returned to service immediately.
TRM Sensors has simultaneously introduced a new low cost monitoring option: TRM Wall Alarm. The Wall Alarm can monitor up to four TRM-ALOS probes with an audible/visual alarm indications and also provides two SPDT output relays to control other alarm indicators or to signal the facility BMS or other site level alarm monitoring system.
TRM-ALOS is also compatible with the TRM-Easy5-Relay-U and TRM-Easy5-SDR for larger and more complex installations.
Design Caution: The TRM-ALSO optical probe does not discriminate between types of liquid. Any liquid can trigger a leak alarm response. Therefor the TRM-ALOS should not be used in a location where rain water or even occasional floor moping could cause a false alarm. Deploy these probes only where the presence of any liquid is considered worth noting. Other members of the TRM Sensors probe family may be more appropriate in some applications: (e.g. to detect fuel but ignore water- use TRM-DFS-3; to detect hydraulic oil and ignore water – use TRM-IOS; to detect water and coolant but ignore fuels an oils use TRM-WLS; to detect acids and bases but ignore normal water consider TRM-HX)

Simple Apparatus Statement:
- CSA Group has examined TRM-DFS-3 and considers the sensor to be “Simple Apparatus” per CSA /EN/IEC/UL 60079-11 Clauses 5.7 a and b. As such TRM-DFS-3 may be installed in hazardous areas when connected to the monitoring device via an approved zener safety barrier. The safety approvals granted to the zener barrier apply to the installation as a whole. TRM Sensors recommends the MTL 7760ac zener barrier. Up to 10 TRM-DFS-3 barriers may be connected to a single TRM Relay Unit Type-CV via a single barrier.

Recommended monitoring options:
- Up to 4 TRM-ALOS sensors may be monitored by TRM-Wall Alarm with audible, visual and dual relay alarm outputs
- Up to 8 TRM-ALOS sensor may be monitored by TRM-Easy5-Relay-U or TRM-Eay5-SDR (UL approved DIN rail modules) . TRM-Easy5-Relay-U provides 4 SPST normally open alarm contacts, TRM-Easy5-SDR provides there same output relays plus a small status screen.
