Water and electricity don’t mix! Computer room designers have been aware of water concerns for a number of years. As a result,  many room scale sensor cables and spot detectors have been developed and brought to market. Historically the focus has been on chilled water supply and return lines, HVAC equipment and similar large scale “water on the floor” detectors.

But water/glycol cooling is now being scaled to the individual circuit board level. Power densities in modern server racks are too high for conventional forced air cooling.   Water/glycol coolant is being piped to small heat exchangers mounted directly on high power CPU chips. Plastic tubing used for the coolant fluid is routed within the racks of server boards and the risk of service interruptions and damage is high if a leak goes undetected.

TRM Sensors developed a very small diameter, very flexible micro-water cable to provide critical protection for this application.

TRM-WaterWire™-FWS is designed to directly interface with the client’s motherboard and similar OEM control equipment. Interfacing directly to digital or analog inputs channels is simple and the details are gladly shared. The sensor cable detects water or water/glycol mix quickly and can be dried, reset and re-used once the leak issue is resolved.
