TRM-WLS is designed to detect leaking water or water/glycol coolant mix in indoor locations. The sensor is positioned on a concrete floor or in shallow drip pan below water cooled equipments or pipe fittings and valves in a position to detect conductive liquids like water or coolant mix as it forms a puddle
The sensor body has a low center of gravity to sit stably on a flat surface. (An optional stainless hold-down fixture is available.) The minimum puddle depth required for detection is less than 1 mm and is usually achieved by the natural puddle depth caused by surface tension as the water or coolant spreads across the floor or drip pan. The electrode surfaces sit just above the floor surface so naturally occurring dampness are not a factor.
TRM-WLS is a completely passive device that qualifies as “simple apparatus” per IEC 60079-11. It has virtually no capacitance or inductance and can be installed in hazardous areas if necessary using approved zener safety barriers to isolate the sensor from the monitoring device. In clean and dry conditions the sensor presents an open circuit to the monitoring device and when exposed to water or coolant the sensor resistance falls to less than 25K ohm.
A TRM -Easy5-Relay-U or TRM-Easy5-Panel can be used to monitor up to 10 of the TRM-WLS sensors and consolidate their alarm status to a single relay signal.
The same Easy5 Relay or Panel can simultaneously monitor up to 10 of the TRM-DFS-3 diesel fuel monitors. By combining at least one fuel sensor and one coolant sensor it is possible to monitor the area under a diesel engine for any fluid leakage.
TRM-WLS will also detect rain water or snow melt, so they are not recommended for outdoor or weather exposed applications.

Reset time:
- Sensor resets immediately when lifted from water/glycol puddle. Remove excess water with dry cloth. Remove any sticky glycol mixture with a damp cloth
Simple Apparatus Statement:
- TRM-WLS to be “Simple Apparatus” per UL 60079-11 (manufacturer self declaration) As such TRM-WLS may be installed in hazardous areas when connected to the monitoring device via an approved zener safety barrier. The safety approvals granted to the zener barrier apply to the installation as a whole. TRM Sensors recommends the MTL 7760ac zener barrier. Up to 10 TRM-WLS barriers may be connected to a single TRM Relay Unit Type-CV via a single barrier.
